Thanksgiving with an infant

...is not as easy as you might think.
Thank goddess Jason was home to help! But I still had to do most of the cooking. All of the food turned out great and the guests arrived right on time. I had to truss the turkey (after stuffing it) with an upholstery needle and waxed thread that I found in my sewing box (how random is that?), but it turned out I rigged it just right. However, the moment the food was out and everyone was sitting down Lyra decided it was time to be angry. She began to cry, so I changed her and attempted to feed her, but it was too late. Thanksgiving dinner ended up being a bit of a fiasco, with everyone taking turns eating and trying to calm the baby in another room. Finally after I had eaten Jason and I managed to pool our parental resources and get her calm enough to eat, which cheered her right back up again. She was an angel the rest of the evening.
This is her with my uncle, who had not seen her since the day she was born.

We are now eagerly awaiting Jason's parents and grandparents, who will be arriving to celebrate an early Christmas next week. I'm hoping we can have a tree by the time they get here, but who knows? It all depends on how much time and money we have next week. For now, I think we're just going to relax, take a few chilly walks to exercise off some of the food we stuffed ourselves with, and eat leftovers all weekend.
I wish we still had a fireplace...
