We then went to a comic book shop Anna knew of not too far away as well as the awesome mall in the center of the shopping district to get smoothies, then down to the infamous chocolate shop where they make the best fudge in Seattle. I ran in, grabbed a big chunk of penuche fudge and said "At last! I walked 2 miles to get this today and I'm super pregnant, but it's worth it!" The lady behind the counter laughed and asked about the baby as I asked to try a piece of chocolate-lavender fudge they had which sounded interesting. It was very good, with almost a minty/tea tree refreshing tinge to it. As we were about to leave the girl asked me if I liked it, and then gave me the whole chunk for free as a gift for my baby! That was so nice of her, I thought. Anyway after that we headed back to the car, all of us tired, hot and sweaty (my feet were totally killing me by then). We dropped Anna off and thought it was a wonderful day.
I now remember around 11pm or so I got a text from Anna saying she was really scared. It didn't say anything about why and as the text woke me from a pretty deep sleep I just finagled something quickly back about her keeping their dog nearby and that I was trying to sleep. I'm sorry, but if you text me and wake me up when I'm exhausted and it doesn't necessarily sound like an emergency then I'm just going to pretty much tell you to f**k off so I can go back to sleep.
Turns out this was not the best idea. This morning I find out that last night she had called the cops on a group of men she saw trying to break into the apartment beneath hers and subsequently got threatened by some guy with a knife. When she told me the story I reminded her that friend etiquette allowed her very well to CALL ME if someone was threatening to kill her, rather than send what could be misconstrued as a vague text message. Thankfully she managed to get over to another friend's house with her dog (her husband was on duty last night and didn't find any of this out til today) so she is safe now but the cops never found the men she had called about so now she's frightened to live in her own apartment. I'm helping her search online today but who knows how long it will take to find them a new place to live within their means.
Good luck, Anna! And maybe you should go buy a gun....
